DIY Chalkboard

Last month I went to Texas to my nephews graduation and to help my friend Mindy move into her new house.  I did a bedroom tour of CGH #4's bedroom including some changes and projects we did.  I had many of you ask how I made the chalkboard in her room.  It's finally finished and ready to share with you!

The chalkboard in CGH #4's bedroom is bigger than the one I show in this video.  I picked the size that worked best in each of the rooms.  In my room it is 2ft by 4ft.  Mindy's 4ft by 4ft.

Items Needed For This Project:

  • Board:  I purchased a 2' X 4' from Home Depot for $6.  You can have one cut for you free if you need a size different that what they have precut.
  • Chalkboard Paint:  I purchased at Home Depot.  Other stores carry it as well. Wal Mart, Hobby stores and Paint store.  Price will vary from store to store.  Some stores will also carry different colors!
  • Misc:  paint brush or roller, chalk, eraser, ruler.
  • Optional:  sandpaper (board should be sanded prior to painting if you want a nice smooth board), 3M velcro picture hangers ( I used these to hang on wall )

I am in the process of redecorating the bedroom this chalkboard is hung.  After back to school videos, I will do a room tour and talk about the whole room.  I'm really excited to show it to you as we have done some really cute stuff and I am in LOVE with this room.

Have fun with your chalkboard.  I would love to see pictures of your projects.  Please share with me on Instagram, Twitter, email, or Facebook!  You can find my links at the top of this blog page.
