DIY Sports/Dance Headband

If you have a daughter in sports or you are a girl in sports you have probably heard of MoMo headbands. My daughter loves them. They are the best at keeping her hair out of her eyes and face when playing.

The two great things about them are the velvet back that comfortably grips your hair and the adjustable elastic to fit any size head.  The bad thing about MoMo bands is the cost.  They run $15 for one or sometimes  2/$20.

This project will combine the great "look and feel" of MoMo bands and a great price with little work. I made these for my daughters Volleyball team to match their team colors and the girls were so excited.

Items Needed For This Project:

  • Velvet Ribbon:  I purchased the 7/8" packaged rolls at Hobby Lobby.  Michaels was out of the black velvet ribbon the day I was shopping.  Other stores you could try would be Wal Mart and Joann.
  • Decorative Ribbon:  I used sequin and glitter in the video.  I do not recommend using a silky ribbon as it will be more difficult to work with.  Grosgrain will be easier.
  • Elastic Hair Ties:  You need two per headband.
  • Misc:  Sewing machine, glue gun, thread, scissors

To watch how I made these, click on the video link!  I would love to see you photos of your finished headband.  Especially team photos!  You can post them on my Facebook page or share with me on Twitter or Instagram.

Share it with your friends too PLEASE! It would mean so much if you did. Thank you so much. BTW I'm the girl doing the cup beat! We want her to be noticed! Trust me she is amazing!
It would also mean a lot if you could post it on your blog maybe?

  3. MoMo bands are only 10-12 dollars. Spins offs and copies cost more, but aren't as high quality.
