Terra Cotta Jewelry Tower/ Cake Stand

I saw this idea online and thought it would be one that "anyone" could do.  I went to Hobby Lobby and bought the terra cotta pots and trays because they often have them 50% off.  Terra Cotta is not super expensive but Hey! every little bit helps these days.  I liked the little pot that is a bit taller and skinnier for my base.  But you can hold them up and see what size you need for the plate size you pick.  They have many options available.

Items needed for this projects are:
  • Terra Cotta plate (size up to you)
  • Terra Cotta pot (appropriate size for base)
  • Super glue or gorilla glue
  • Craft Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Clearcoat spray.  I used a satin finish.

I wanted my stands to have a worn antique look to them but if you don't care for this look, you can paint yours solid.  Here are a few pictures of my stand and tower including one to show how I am going to use my tower as a jewelry stand.

I am going to put this on the counter in my daughters bathroom.  She loves this color right now.  You can also find items in this color at PB Teen.  I hope you have a fun time making this project.  It is really easy and I can't wait to see how many things I will use them for!

Let me know what you come up with!

  1. I have a question about your terra cotta jewelry stand. Did you end up gluing all three layers together or leaving them separate? I want to glue them together, but I'm worried it will be too heavy.

    Thanks.

  4. I did not glue all layers together. I just set them on top of each other. It is not used for anything heavy duty so it stays just fine. You could glue together. I don't think it will matter. Hope this helps.

  7. Thank you! I just made my first two and I have to say they are GEORGEOUS! When I try things, they normally don't turn out, but the frist two are amazing! I cannot get the step with the white paint to work, but they look great without it and one I did not do the brown since I wanted it to look new and shiny! Thanks so much for your super great instruction video. I enjoy watching your craft videos.

  10. thanks for the post! i am in the middle of the project right now, just doing a different color. I tried hot glue and it didn't seal. Then i tried super glue and that didn't work at all. So now i am trying gorilla glue. i am making this for my 7 year old for her jewelry to sit on, it will be in her bathroom, so i am glueing all the pieces together just to be safe. jenny

  11. Did the Gorilla Glue work to glue all the pieces together? Or did you find anything else that works well? Thanks! :)

  12. I used E6000 for the adhesive and it worked great. I painted mine black matte and then used a few layers of Mod Podge for the sealant. It turned out great. Thanks for the idea and the instructional video!
